🍂 Less is More: Simple Ways to Embrace Fall with Minimalist Decor

Hey there! If you are new to reading Home with Booz, thank you for being here. If you have visited this blog before, thank you for coming back to learn with me ways we can make our lives less complicated and more fulfilled.

When the air gets crisp and the leaves start to change, it’s only natural to want your home to feel cozy and seasonal. But if you’re into clean lines and clutter-free spaces, don’t worry—you can still celebrate fall without overwhelming your space. Minimalist fall decor is all about subtle touches, natural textures, and warm tones that speak volumes in quiet ways.

We are still experiencing hot temps here in the Mid-West but fall is right around the corner and I am loving what some of my favorite stores have out right now to inspire us with warm hues and fall textiles. As much as I love the quiet joys of my favorite summertime items shared in this post, I am starting to feel the pull of wanting to be inside by the fireplace, snuggled with a warm blanket and good book!

Today, I am sharing a few simple ideas to help your home feel like fall—without going full pumpkin explosion:

1. Stick to a Warm, Neutral Palette

Swap out bright colors for soft earth tones. Think creamy beiges, rust, ochre, olive green, and warm browns. Even adding one or two throw pillows in cozy, fall-inspired hues can make your living room feel instantly seasonal.

Last week I ran into Crate & Barrel to swap out our pillow inserts and spent time walking around the store checking out the new color palette for fall. I am loving the dark green tones and neutral colors they had out in several of their living room displays. I took a color swatch home and plan to map out a few new purchases soon!

2. Bring the Outdoors In

Use natural materials like dried wheat, eucalyptus, or pampas grass in a simple vase. A single branch with changing leaves can look stunning in a neutral space—no need for a full floral arrangement.

This facette white vase on the bottom shelf in our living room is a classic item and switching out the stems is an easy decor update. The dried wheat stems are a simple nod to the season with low effort to update the space for fall.

3. Swap Out Textiles

Changing up your throw blankets and pillow covers is one of the easiest seasonal updates. Choose fabrics like knit, linen, or wool in muted fall colors. Keep the patterns simple or solid to stay true to the minimalist vibe.

Target is my favorite store to find affordable and stylish blankets to welcome in the new season. These Studio McGee blankets (similar) are a nice neutral color with a cozy knit texture that is the perfect transition from summer to fall. Paired with a few other seasonal decor items like this floral arrangement (similar) and ceramic pumpkin, (similar) makes for an simple update in just a few easy steps.

4. Candlelight, but Make it Cozy

Candles instantly warm up a room—especially as the days get shorter. Stick with unscented or subtly scented candles in minimalist holders. A few staggered on a shelf or coffee table add that soft glow without clutter.

Scents are a powerful way to welcome the new season and the fall aromas are some of my favorites! Target has a great candle selection like this Pumpkin Spice candle and Hello Pumpkin candle. If you prefer to not have candles around the home, I have been loving this reed diffuser holder. Crate&Barrel has a stylish selection in white or onyx reed diffusers in a variety of different scents!

5. Edit Before You Add

This one’s key for minimalist decor: don’t just add seasonal items—swap them in. If you’re decorating your shelves, remove a few items first. That way, your fall pieces get a moment to shine instead of competing for attention.

I like to decorate with classic pieces which allows for a cohesive look in our home. I shared in this post how I decorate with intention and being mindful of what I bring into our home. This helps me better focus where I like to make my edits in different spaces for seasonal changes. I have learned creating a system for editing items and swapping out decor in a few key spots, makes decorating easy and more enjoyable for me.

Final Thoughts

Fall decor doesn’t have to mean going overboard with pumpkins and plaid. A minimalist approach lets you enjoy the season in a way that feels intentional, calm, and totally you. 🍁 What are your favorite ways to embrace the fall season? Share in the comments!

This post pairs well with a L’Ecole 41 Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon which is one of my favorite red wines.
