The Quiet Joys of Favorite Summertime Items Around The Home

Hey there! If you are new to reading Home with Booz, thank you for being here. If you have visited this blog before, thank you for coming back to learn with me ways we can make our lives less complicated and more fulfilled.

There is something magical about summer, the way time slows down to enjoy lazy days and connect with family and friends. During the month of July I took time to do just that, enjoy the quiet joys of my favorite things about this season to recharge and reinvigorate my goals, habits and dreams. Favorite items are reflections of who we are and what we value, more than just possessions, they support and enhance our daily rituals. Today I am going to share the five favorite items that made the top of my list this summer.

Kindle Paperwhite

I love to read and this summer I became more intentional about setting aside time to relish in a good story. The Kindle Paperwhite is an item I didn’t know I needed until I received one as a gift from my family. It is now one of my favorite things and one of the most used items around the house!

The summer months are filled with trips to the pool, lake and vacations. I love the ease of being able to take this anywhere I go and since it’s lightweight I can drop it in my purse or beach bag for reading at anytime. I primarily use the local library app Libby for my books and the Kindle Paperwhite makes it simple to check out a new book to read within minutes. No more issues with limited space to pack bulky books and the endless supply of digital copies available means no matter where I am, reading is an easy activity.

Back Deck

In the summer, this is my favorite part of the house. Our deck furniture, including this four piece wicker patio set are used daily. Whether it’s enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening, this space brings me comfort and helps me recharge and disconnect.

As I continue to look for ways to incorporate daily habits to promote health and well being, this outdoor space has given me a safe haven to spend more time being grounded in nature and the simple joys of life. I’ve been reading more about how to age well and I’m surprised by how small habits, such as practicing deep breathing or enjoying sunlight first thing in the morning can improve your overall sense of well being. As I practice this more, I can attest this is true and I am grateful for the space and time to invest in self-care.

Skylight Calendar

My family surprised me with the Skylight Calendar for Mother’s Day and I LOVE it! This digital calendar checks all the boxes for me and has made such a difference in keeping us all on the same page about activities happening in our family.

I have always been a paper planner kind of person and enjoyed picking out a new one each year. But as our schedules get more complicated and with the need for transparency for all of us to know what is scheduled and when, you can’t beat this digital device. Not only does it have a great screen display to easily view all of your upcoming events, it syncs with our phone calendars which makes it easy for us to access at anytime. My favorite feature is the ability to color code by individual family members. This helps me tremendously as we plan our day and upcoming week. No affiliation with this product, simply love it and want to share it with anyone I know!

Outdoor Plants

One of my favorite things about summer is fresh tomatoes! I posted at the start of the summer my outdoor container plants and several of you were interested to know how these did in containers. This picture shows how much these plants have produced this year and we have had an endless supply of tomatoes all season!

I truly can’t decide if my favorite summer dish is BLT’s or tomato and mozzarella with fresh basil. One meal, we decided to have both and with each bite I proclaimed they were both my favorite. I believe growing fresh tomatoes and herbs is easy to do and with so many options for tomato varieties, you will be sure to find one that works for your particular gardening needs! If you want more details about which plants and pots I like the best, you may enjoy this post.

Closet Organizing Bins

Sometimes a simple upgrade can immediately improve your space and efficiency. This summer I purchased stackable shoe drawers to help organize my leggings and lounge pants. This is my favorite item in my closet right now that I use daily.

I was struggling with how to organizing my leggings and lounge pants until I switched to these drawers. Previously these items were stacked on top of each other on the shelf but due to different sizes and textures, they always looked a little sloppy to me. These stackable shoe drawers, make it easy to roll up the pants and maximize storage space. One of my goals this summer is getting in more steps and improving my mobility as a healthy habit to promote longevity. Easy access to workout clothes is one small step in making sure this happens!

Final Thoughts

Favorite items are those things we reach for on repeat, the items that support our goals, values and habits. Taking time to reset and rejuvenate can also give us insight into what we love and why. Summer days go by so quickly and savoring every moment of what summer means to me has been my favorite part of the season. Take a moment today and notice what you use most often and ask yourself why. What do they support or encourage in your life? Often it’s an unspoken and quiet joy that makes those items our favorites. Embrace them with gratitude for what they bring to your life, your routine and your energy!

This post pairs well with a Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay, one of my favorite summer wines.
