Monthly Musings: December Design & Wine

Design

I love kicking off the holiday season with decorating around the house and curating seasonal design changes to create a cozy vibe. The holidays come and go so quickly, and the older I am, the more I find myself wanting to hold on a little longer to the magic of the season.

Design | Winter White

This year I embraced a winter white holiday theme and have been enjoying the simplicity of this look. I like to mix in new pieces each holiday season, along with the classic pieces I set out each year. My favorite purchase this season is this snowflake lace ornament and this snowflake cutout ornament which added a nice pop of white texture against the classic greenery of the Christmas tree.

I love to add in extra blankets during the colder months, both for the ease of snuggling up with one on a cold night and also for the soft look they bring to the living spaces. This faux fur reversible throw and faux rabbit fur throw have been great additions to the living rooms this year. Wine

My journey of exploring and enjoying good wine has been heavily influenced by my parents, two of my favorite people to enjoy a good glass of wine with on a Sunday afternoon. This month we celebrated my Dad’s 75th birthday and I could think of no better way to anchor the moment than to enjoy some of our favorite wine together!

Wine and Dine | KC Favorite

This month for our exploration in Kansas City, we visited the Vintage ’78 Wine Bar for a delightful wine and dine experience. This is our second time checking out this location and after dropping in for a wine tasting one evening, we knew we needed to come back soon to experience a full meal.

The wine bar has a comprehensive menu of wines which allows for a unique tasting experience with every visit. The Sommelier’s knowledge of wine is beyond impressive and creates a fun atmosphere to learn more about each pour.

I recommend the Sofa King Good wine flight, which is a tasting of wine selected by the wine sommelier, tailored to varieties you prefer and matched with their current favorite wines. We each had a slightly different experience based on our preferences and were introduced to new wines to add to our list of favorites.

We devoured a delicious charcuterie board with our wine flights and then enjoyed an incredible steak dinner. The return visit did not disappoint and we will definitely visit again soon.

Home with Booz

This time of year when the weather gets bitterly cold and the days are shorter, you will most likely find me by the fire with a cozy blanket (and a golden doodle!) Reading a good book, watching sports or listening to music are some of my favorite ways to fill the extra time indoors. Of course, I do love a simple organization project and try to focus on a few places during the winter for a quick refresh!

December Favorites

Decluttering

This month I tackled a much needed refresh in the bathroom cabinet under my sink. I discovered the like-it under the sink starter kit and finally tackled the growing mess. I am always glad when I take the 30 minutes to organize a space as it instantly improves my efficiency.

Gatherings

I shared my wine and gathering must haves recently, which highlighted some of my favorite cookbooks. Ina Garten’s recipes are always delicious and attainable for even beginner cooks like me! If you need an inspirational read, check out her memoir.

Cozy Comforts

This year I plan to incorporate more moments of intentional rest and these throws will be used on repeat. The Faux Fur blankets around our home are just the inviting vibe I need to encourage me to slow down and relax in the warmth of a cozy comfort.

“Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas is a little bit more.”

The Grinch

Final Thoughts

This time of year we often spend our evenings watching our favorite Christmas movies and The Grinch always makes the list! As we sat snuggled on the couch earlier this week, I found myself reflecting on a key line from the movie, stated by the Grinch near the end when the focus shifts towards the joy of gathering with family and friends as the reason for the season.

As I reflect on 2024 and look forward to 2025, it is not the things I remember but the time well spent with family and friends, the experiences we share with others and our ability to expand our lives to be a little bit more.

I am grateful for this space and the opportunity to share and grow with all of you! Happy Holidays!
