Simple Tips For How To Incorporate Halloween Decor
A mix of fall and classic spooky pieces allow for simple changes to celebrate Halloween for the month of October.
For years I have struggled with how to recognize Halloween during the month of October while still honoring my desire for a classic and simple design around our home. I prefer investing in pieces I can have out for longer periods of time or all year round and found Halloween as an interruption in my season of fall decor, which is my favorite time of year! Since having our daughter, I have learned how to incorporate simple changes in just a few focused areas to allow for a festive space to enjoy for this short time of year. I will share below three ways to elevate your space for Halloween and give a spooky vibe to your entryway spaces!
1. Create your Fall Porch
I have these planters from Crate and Barrel out all year round and change up the layout and plants to reflect the seasons. This summer the tall planters in front were flanked by the front door allowing the bigger pots to be center stage to showcase the Rio flowers which have become my staple for the warmer months. The grass in these planters was a new plant to me this year and I wasn’t sure how long they would last living in the pots. Since they are still going strong into the fall season, I decided to move them forward and use this as my focal point for the front of the porch and moved the larger pots towards the back to help protect them during the colder winter months.
I love the twinkle trees from Amazon and decided to move them outside early this year. I plan to have them plugged in starting in November to slowly begin to welcome the holiday season and for now, have left them as is creating a bare branched fall tree. These trees can be used for months and are one of my favorite purchases from Amazon!
2. Mix in a Moody Halloween item
An easy way to add a Halloween vibe to your front porch is to add in a Jack-O-Lantern in the mix of your other fall pieces. Rather than have a porch full of pumpkins, keep it simple with adding in one or two festive items to give a simple touch to reflect the season. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to create a seasonal look! I’ve had my eye on these Jack-O-Lanterns from Crate and Barrel for several years and finally purchased two this year! I love the classic look of the pumpkin and added in a pillar candle from Target with a timer to give it an extra spooky vibe in the evening.
3. Extend your Halloween vibe to your entryway
I focused my decor updates for this season to the entryway. It’s an easy spot to make changes and allows for minimal investment for the short time we celebrate this Halloween. This year I updated our look by adding in the witch hats from Studio McGee and my daughter is obsessed with them! It’s her favorite item and she will often put one on her head to show off this space when guests arrive. I love seeing her get joy out of having a festive spot to celebrate halloween and welcome in our company. I bought these bats from Amazon last year and they are perfect to give a spooky vibe to the entry. They come in a pack of 100 and I only used around 20 of them to fill this small area. This year I added in the cheesecloth to cover the console table which really elevates the vibe. I got mine off of Amazon and still have several in the pack which could be used in other spots. The twisted candles are also from Amazon and are an easy way to give a new look for this season. I’ve had these candlesticks and lamp from Target for years. The candlesticks are a classic item and a must have in my opinion. Last year I picked up the black spider from Target to add to the decor as I slowly started to embrace decorating for Halloween. The vase is a find from a thrift store and the branches were purchased at a local grocery store floral shop several years ago.
Summary
I’ve slowly learned how fun it is to incorporate the spooky and moody vibe which comes with this holiday and look forward to pulling out these items each year! These three tips make it easy and affordable to change up the look for Halloween. By just adding a few dedicated items you too can enjoy creating a festive space to welcome trick or treaters and enjoy the interruption of this holiday in the fall season.
