Easy Home Decor Ideas for Spring

Hello Spring

is it time yet?

I saw the sun last week and I heard the birds chirping outside my window. Does this mean it’s almost time for all things spring? Because I am ready for it. Sadly, we also had another round of snow which means Mother Nature has other plans.

Even though we are still experiencing winter, I am starting to prepare our home for the changes in the season. Today I am sharing three easy ways to update your home for spring. These tips can help you transition your home to welcome a new season in less than an hour.

1- Identify key areas for seasonal home decor

I shared in this post my moment of realizing I needed to do something different with my home decor and became really intentional in how I approached shopping and decorating for our home. I now have a simple formula I have been using over the last few years which allows for quick, low budget updates for each season. This can be used in any type of home setting and works well for any style of home decor. The basic principle of this formula is to limit where you incorporate seasonal changes to a few spaces and only use a few selected items to change the look. This approach allows me to keep the rest of the space with neutral, classic decor items allowing for a cohesive look throughout the home. Other advantages to this approach is it limits time spent on doing a massive home decor update every couple of months and it saves money by limiting the amount of home decor purchased to achieve a new look.

The entryway is one of my key spaces I make changes and where I spend the most time updating items to reflect a holiday vibe or seasonal vignette. During each season, I tend to have two different looks for this area. One is specific for a particular holiday during that time of year and the other is a neutral look for the rest of the season. Below are three different entryway looks and I will show you how simple updates can easily give a new feel to this space in our home.

Three different entryway looks with simple changes

Fall

During the fall I start in September with a neutral display of decor objects and transition to a Halloween vibe for the month of October. Read more here for tips on decorating for Halloween.

Winter

In November I transition back to a neutral vibe mixing in a few ceramic pumpkins until I’m ready to start decorating for the Christmas holiday. Read more here for tips on decorating after Christmas.

Spring

Once March arrives, I am ready to lighten up the spaces and prepare for the spring. I tend to set out less decor during this time of year and keep it simple with minimal updates for this season.

The other areas where I like to make small changes is on the coffee table in our main living room or the dining room table. Having a way to focus my energy and home decor by identifying a few key spaces to change up each season has been a game changer for me in keeping a seasonal update to just a few quick updates.

2- Swap out decor objects

In each of the entryway looks above, I have several items which stay constant regardless of the season. I shared in this post my best coffee table books and this one and this one are a part of the home decor all year round. I like to use coffee table books as home decor because it’s an easy way to add height to a space, while also giving a subtle message about who you are and what you love. I use the books as a platform to highlight a decor object which reflects the current season and will pair other items next to it to create a new vignette as part of the entryway refresh.

When I think about spring, I think of renewal, new beginnings and a fresh start. For me, this means keeping life simple and refocusing our energy to a state of calm. I keep the decor pretty simple to reflect this state of mind. This year I set out these wood bunnies sculpted with a simple design and paired them with a family heirloom. This pocket watch serves as a gentle reminder of how time passes, yet can also stand still.

I have a two sets of books out on our coffee table and will use these spots as my second space where I swap out a decor objects to change up the look for a new season. This spring I opted to set out on one set of books a few ceramic eggs I purchased from TJMaxx several years ago and changed our diffuser scent on the other set of books to add in a floral aroma I picked up from our trip to Hawaii. The change in the scent, brings back memories of an incredible trip and the feeling of warmer weather. A great way to kick off the spring season!

3- Update faux stems with in seasonal florals

I prefer to style with real houseplants when I can for most of my home decor, however the entryway is one space where I will use faux stems to reflect the change in the season. I purchase most of my vases from Crate&Barrel. I find their high quality, classic design to be a good investment into our home decor. I love the simple style of their vases and changing out the faux stems or branches depending on the season is an easy and simple update.

In the spring, I usually start out with a few faux stems with simple greenery and will transition to fresh flowers or faux floral stems later in the season. I have this vase set out all year, except for Halloween as I prefer a darker, spooky vibe this month.

As you can see, you don’t have to do much to change up the vibe for each season and investing in classic pieces makes it really easy to do a few simple updates without spending much time or money.

Final Thoughts

My approach to design and decorating is to keep it classic and uncomplicated. If you adopt this formula, you will be amazed at how this can benefit you both in the look and feel of your space as well as the ease of which it takes to complete a seasonal refresh. If this resonates with you, consider looking around your home to identify the key areas you could focus your seasonal updates and enjoy having more time, along with more money to spend!

This post pairs well with a white wine such as the L’Ecole Semillon which is a great wine to enjoy out on a deck during warmer weather. If you found this post helpful, consider sharing it on Pinterest! Cheers!
