Holiday Wrap Up & How to Organize Holiday Decor
Holiday Wrap Up
And just like that, Christmas is over and we begin to prepare for the New Year! This is always a bittersweet moment for me. I love decorating for the holidays and watching the house transform with the magic which comes with the Christmas season.
We had a great month relishing in the traditions of the holidays with family and I highlighted a few pics in the gallery to share some of our favorite moments.

Holiday Wrap Up | Magic of the Season
As our daughter gets older, the holiday traditions take on a different experience for all of us. I enjoy watching the magic of Christmas through her eyes, the Ooh’s and Ah’s as we took a tour of some of Kansas City’s best light displays in our area and the growing excitement as Christmas Day draws near. I am grateful for the homes who are all in for outdoor displays as it creates a fun time for other families. The days celebrating the holidays goes by so quickly and I love the ability to create special memories as a family each year.
Topping the list of favorite activities for our daughter included our annual visit with Santa at Family Tree Nursery, Sar-Ko Aglow lights display and our family movie nights. This year’s holiday puzzle inspired us during our annual cookie making event with Grammy and the extra time we have with family is always enjoyed. Christmas Day was low key for us with family over to celebrate. Santa came with this throw blanket gift set and matching plush mouse followed by a WIN for our Kansas City Chiefs! And that’s the wrap up. Now on to organizing decor!
Christmas Decor Organization
As much as I love placing the Christmas Decor around the house and relishing in the twinkle lights of the holiday season, I always find myself surprisingly ready to pack it all away. I begin to shift my mind to the coming year and start the process of decluttering our home for a fresh, clean, minimal look.
I will share below three easy steps for organizing any seasonal decor, setting you up for success next year when it’s time again to sort through the bins and recreate the joy of the Christmas magic!
Christmas Decor Organization | Three Easy Steps
Anytime I am organizing a space, big or small, I follow a consistent process of taking everything out and assessing each item. For seasonal decor, I do this at the start and the end of the season. I find at times as I am unpacking, I may not be ready to donate or discard an item, however by the end of December I may have new insight an item no longer serves a purpose and in the donation bin it goes! This quick step ensures you don’t find yourself 10 years later storing a bunch of stuff you don’t like and won’t use again.
If you’ve read my blog before now, you know I prefer a simplified look when it comes to design, and I find this holds true as I make decisions around how to add in seasonal decor into our spaces. We have lived in this house for several years now and I have settled into a ritual of where I like to add in decor objects around the home. This has allowed me to change how I pack up and I now store all the items by living spaces, making life easier to unpack next year.
This simple change will also help you remember what has worked in previous years and keep the unpacking quick, giving you more time to focus on the fun of recreating the spaces each season!
Step 1: Clean
At the end of the season, I like to empty out each storage container and review again any items I didn’t use. This helps me make a timely decision on if I should donate or keep anything not used. I then vacuum and clean out any debris prior to repacking up the decorations.
Step 3: Label
I use adhesive labels on the storage containers and label accordingly to the items in the containers. I have a third bin labeled “X-mas – Extras” for items not used and not ready to donate as I may add them back in depending on next year’s theme.
Final Thoughts
I shared in last week’s Monthly Musings | Wine & Dine post a few of my reflections during the holiday season, recognizing the gift most valued, is the time with family and friends.
One of the many reasons I believe in living an organized life, is the efficiency this gives us in our daily routines and the calm I feel in being able to be fully present with those I love. I have quite a few projects on the list for this winter and I look forward to sharing with you more tips, tricks and organized solutions for every day needs.
Cheers to showing up and leaning into the journey of living our best life! May 2025 be an exciting adventure!
